Chargers Split Pair of 1-Run Games at Highland; Open Region Tourney Tuesday

The Carl Sandburg College softball team wrapped up its regular season schedule by splitting a pair of one-run games in an Arrowhead Conference doubleheader at Highland on Friday.

Key Moment
The Chargers opened up an early lead, using five hits to score four runs in the first inning. Kelsey Hobson (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone) doubled to lead off the game. Rylee Krebsbach (Aledo, Ill./Sherrard) followed with an RBI single, Kayla Wolf (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) added a run-scoring single, and Julia Vosburgh (Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock) made it 4-0 with a two-run base hit to center.

Sandburg Standout
Vosburgh drove in half of the Chargers’ six runs in the contest. In addition to her two-run single in the first, she added an RBI groundout in the fifth to give Sandburg a 6-4 lead.

Key Moment
Sandburg led 3-0 after the third, but the Cougars clawed back with a pair of runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth to grab the lead. Riley Kleckler’s one-out single in the sixth drove in the game-winning run.

Sandburg Standout
Maddi Benson (Spring Bay, Ill./Metamora) collected three hits in four at-bats and drove in a run with her single in the first to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead.

UP NEXT FOR SANDBURG
The Chargers will open the Region IV tournament with a first-round series at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morton. All three games of the best-of-three series will take place Monday afternoon. The winner advances to the Region IV semifinal round hosted by Highland on Saturday. The championship will take place Sunday at Highland.
